Looks great from every angle

Smartly designed and available in Light Silver, Dark Blue and Ruby Red, the µ [mju:] 760 radiates on individual style that grabs attention. While the compact dimensions and elegant contours of its weatherproof*, metal body make it a pleasure to have and hold, its high spec ensures excellent photo results. A precision 3x optical zoom (37-111mm on a 35mm camera, 1:3.4-5.7) gives photographers the flexibility they need to bring subjects in close and a resolution of 7.1 Megapixels gives plenty of detail-capturing power. In addition, Dual Image Stabilization takes a double-barrelled approach to fend off unwanted blur through a combination of a mechanical image stabilizer and high ISO values.
See and capture more in low light

BrightCapture Technology guarantees the capture of great atmospheric shots, even in situations where only little light is available. The µ [mju:] 760 features special scene modes that increase the ISO value to 1600 – significantly reducing the need for flash – while retaining full 7.1 Megapixel image quality. This technology is also applied in the Movie mode to considerably extend the opportunities for capturing the magic of movement at night. Furthermore, BrightCapture Technology makes it easier to frame shots on the large 6.4cm LCD screen with 230,000 pixels, as the image displayed is around four times brighter than on a standard LCD.

Simply elegant, elegantly simple

The µ [mju:] 760 matches its versatility and good looks with ease of use. This ergonomically-formed camera offers a choice of 23 scene modes that cover many common shooting situations including Candle, Sports and three Underwater modes. Users are therefore ready to take perfect shots with the minimum of fuss and effort. And featuring both internal memory plus an xD-Picture Card slot, the µ [mju:] 760 offers plenty of flexibility for the storage of images and movies.

And should the photographer fancy giving their camera a real soaking, an Underwater Case is optionally available. It lets the fun of photography continue under the water’s surface – down to 40m below, in fact!

A versatile and attractive addition to the µ [mju:] family, the metal-bodied µ [mju:] 760 is available in a choice of three colours. Olympus Stylus 760 Reviews

CNET has a review of the Olympus Stylus 760 and writes, " Our testing yielded reasonably sharp photos with well-resolved details in the center, although there were a few spots where postprocessing smeared some edges--a common problem in compacts. Colors tended to be a bit too cool but appropriately saturated, and measured noise was surprisingly low, appearing as only a moderate grain even at ISO 800. At ISO 1,600, however, the photos exploded with noise-driven speckles and fuzz. As you'd expect from the narrow, short-range zoom lens, distortion was almost nonexistent, barreling only slightly at the edges at its widest. Though its images aren't perfect and it's a bit sluggish, the Olympus Stylus 760 is still a good compact camera. Its light, pocketable design and logical, simple features make it a fine choice for anyone who wants a small camera he or she can take nearly anywhere."

Steve's Digicams has a review of the Olympus Stylus 760 and writes, "the Olympus Stylus 760 continues the tradition of the Stylus line by offering good image quality, great performance, and sleek design all packed in a weather resistant shell. This model rose to the top of our list in this series. The image quality could be better and unfortunately it uses the incredibly slow xD memory cards that Olympus and Fujifilm designed (we hope someday they'll switch to SD). If you're in the market for a versatile little pocket-digicam that you can take out into the rain, look no further. With an MSRP of about $249.99, we feel it offers an outstanding value and should be a very popular model this year."

Imaging Resource has a review of the Olympus Stylus 760 and writes, "Olympus's Stylus 760 camera is a very handy size, and can produce good pictures under the right conditions. In my testing though, I was expecting more from its image stabilization system. You can always push an IS system beyond its limits, but I never felt I saw the level of sharpness improvement I'd normally expect from an image-stabilized camera when I was shooting with the 760. My other big gripe was that I found the LCD monitor way too hard to use outdoors, it's just too reflective. With no optical viewfinder on the camera, outdoor shooting was not pleasant. It was usable if there wasn't direct sun, and it was always OK indoors, but in full sun I found it almost impossible to frame my shots. I liked the camera operationally, the buttons were easy to use and the menu navigation was easy to learn. It's also very nicely designed, is very stylish looking, and slips in and out of pockets very easily. Its splash-proof rating is also a very nice feature to see on a digicam, it's great not to have to worry that a few raindrops might kill your camera. All in all, the Olympus 760 is a stylish and responsive camera, with splash resistance thrown in for good measure, and helpful features in the form of its Guide mode and helpful explanations in its menu system. If Olympus could just put a good anti-reflection coating on its LCD, I think they'd have a winner, but as it is, it counts as a near miss in my book."

PhotographyPress has a review of the Olympus Mju 760 and writes, "Sadly, like the 750 noise, while marginally better controlled here than on the 750 is still an issue of ISO 200. To compound the problems the processing used to help reduce the worst affects of the noise also strips fine detail the higher up the ISO scale you go. So while the snaps you take will look reasonably acceptable at all ISOs on a 6x4-inch print, go over the ISO 100 mark and any prints larger than this will start to show the noise problems: speckles of blue and red within the image. And detail is smoothed away too. ... at the lower sensitivities – that is, below ISO 200! – the lens performance is not compromised. Detail is plentiful, colour is well rendered, and white balance is very good with only slight issues in the auto mode when indoors under mixed lighting where an odd orange cast is evident."

Cameras.co.uk has a review of the Olympus MJU 760 and writes, "In my first outdoor test shot the MJU 760 does a fair job with focusing. I have seen sharper photos than this one, but in my view sharpness is at an acceptable level. There is more than a suggestion of a purple tinge to blue lines and areas on the boats. ... You are not exactly spoilt for choice if you would like a camera you can take out in the rain. The Olympus MJU 760 does not quite hit the spot for me without being a poor digital camera. A 20% all round improvement wouldn't go amiss with this range of cameras."

Trusted Reviews has reviewed the Olympus mju 760 where they give it a rating of 7 out of 10 and write - 'In most respects the Olympus mju 760 is a typical feature-starved budget-priced 3x zoom pocket compact, but superior build quality, stylish design, excellent low-light focusing and of course its weatherproof body set it apart from the crowd. Image quality is no better than most cameras in its class, but no worse either. As a basic snapshot camera it offers excellent value for money.'
